Am I the only one who has unrealistic ideals about what their life should be or how it should look? We see all of these pictures, articles, pins, facebook updates, and even blogs (hehe) about how all the people around us are living a “perfect” life. Their kids wear adorable coordinating outfits. Their dinner parties have the best food and perfect decorations. Their houses always look like something from Martha Stewart magazine.

Please don’t think I’m trying to say that it’s wrong for people to share about their life or accomplishments. I just think it’s interesting that we spend so much time trying to put up a mirage about our lives. Life isn’t perfect, it’s messy. At least mine is. Granted there are moments, when I catch glimpses of the ideal in my everyday life. I try to find simple ways to bring it into my life. Fresh flowers on the kitchen table, a lit candle on the coffee table. However so many times the rest of life crowds it out. Why is it so hard to realize the ideals that I have set before me? Does anyone else struggle with this? Am I the only one who feels like they are failing? Like they are missing the point?

Perhaps, just perhaps, what I have set up as my ideals, are the wrong ones for me to be looking toward. In his word, God puts ideals in place for me. Aren’t these the ones I should be striving toward?

“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”
– Colossians 3:17

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 4:4-7

What do these verses mean? What are these ideals? The ideals that speak of peace, joy, thankfulness and prayer. A deeper look into the phrase “this is God’s will for you” shows me that it’s God’s gracious design. His design is for us to pray without ceasing, to be in communication with Him. To rejoice and give thanks.

To do what I do in the name of Jesus, and give thanks. Not to worry but to pray and give thanks so that we might have peace.

What do my ideals that I put up give me? Anxiety, stress, worry, a need to “keep up”. What do God’s ideals offer me? Joy and peace. Maybe it’s time I stopped looking to keep up with the rest of the world, and I start simply following the plans Christ has laid out for me.  Maybe once I change what my “ideals” are, then life, the race to keep up, the cloud thata covers the day, will also change. Let’s give it a try.

Our Wedding

Here is a short slideshow of pictures capturing our happy day. R and I couldn’t be more happy with how our day was or how our marriage has been since. 🙂 We loved every moment of it and I hope you enjoy this little glimpse. 🙂 Pictures were taken by the lovely Lauren Chase. Thanks so much for capturing our special day Lauren! 🙂 We loved having you be there. Enjoy!

It’s ALIVE!!!!!!

Dear friends –

I am very sorry for my absense (yes, yes I know. We’ve all heard this before. Blah blah blah)

Hopefully everyone will be very happy to hear that nothing terrible has happened to me during my absence and that all has been well in my life. I promise that I will very shortly have some updates for you as to my wedding! (and the joys of the name change process, which is still incomplete), our honeymoon, as well as all of the joys of our summer travels. 🙂 More information to come shortly I promise. Please bear with me during this time. Things have been more than a little hectic around here and my wonderful husband and I are (maybe?) finally all settled in. 🙂

Thanks for your patience and for hanging in there with me during my silence.

Road Trippin’!

Hello dear friends! I’m sorry that I haven’t put up a whole lot lately. Things have been crazy out here. After Ric and I got back from the Dominican we spent a few days out with my family and opened up wedding gifts. Then we were back at our apartment for a few days and did our best to get settled in quickly. Then we headed off on what we are calling “The Great American Road Trip: Part 1”. We are traveling back to Wisconsin (or the Motherland if you ask Ric) so we can have our second reception for friends and family who weren’t able to make it out to Colorado.

The trip is going well and I promise I am taking lots of pictures and that I will put up lots of info as soon as I can. We are still on the road and having a blast! We also can’t wait to get home 🙂

Well friends it’s been quite a while since I’ve put anything up on here and I apologize for that. Just a few quick updates for everyone and then I promise that I’ll get a little more detailed later on. 🙂

The wedding was wonderful. It was absolutely wonderful and it was so special to see everyone there. I had a wonderful time and I am beyond happy to now be married to my best friend!!

Since then we spent a week at home getting a little more moved in and settled. Such a blessing!! It was so nice to have time to just relax and not have to stress about packing or flights right away. I highly recommend doing this if you are getting married and it’s possible. Delay your honeymoon for a week or even just a few days and just .be together.

After that we had an amazing week down in the Dominican Republic. What a wonderful week in paradise. Great weather and fun adventures. Can’t wait to put up all the pictures.

Now we are home for a week and I’ll try to update if possible. 🙂

Charity Danielle

So I would like to just put up a quick post bragging on my sweet little niece. On May 6th my family was richly blessed with the precious gift of a new addition. She is healthy and happy and her mom is doing well. Her baby brother loves her so much and is careful to be sweet and gentle. Her father (my brother) is already wrapped around her little finger. Welcome to the world baby girl!!

So Close!!

Can you believe that we are just 17 days away from the wedding?!?! How on earth did this come up so quickly!! I can hardly believe that in less than 3 weeks it’ll be here. So exciting though!

Plans are coming along great though and thankfully everything is actually going quite smoothly. We really haven’t had too many major hang ups. The main thing now is just not losing steam and still working on everything. Food has been ordered or already purchased. Decorations are almost done. Pretty much all of the supplies have come in. Now it’s just assembling everything! 🙂 Not to mention waiting for the last minute rsvps to be sent in. Its all just been such an exciting time and I can’t wait to put up more pictures and posts as the day gets closer!! 🙂
